THE LEGEND OF PAPPY VAN WINKLE
Old Rip Van Winkle is a brand of bourbon whiskey that is produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. The brand was created in 1953 by Julian Van Winkle, Sr., who was the grandson of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr., one of the founders of Buffalo Trace.
The name "Old Rip Van Winkle" comes from the character of Rip Van Winkle, who is the protagonist of a short story by Washington Irving. In the story, Rip Van Winkle is a Dutch-American farmer who falls asleep for 20 years while hunting in the Catskill Mountains. When he wakes up, he finds that the world has changed and that he is now an old man.
The Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon is aged for at least 10 years in new, charred oak barrels. It is bottled at a high proof of 107 proof, which gives it a bold and flavorful taste.
