Cocktails To Bark About

Posted by Ethan Kelley on Apr 29th 2020

I have been missing many things lately. Haircuts, my wash & fold service, and the gym. But mostly I miss regulars, drinking buddies, barflies, or whatever name you have for the crew that fills those barstools like gargoyles protecting the souls of the bartenders who work there. I really miss those guys. Hard to know if they are friends or acquaintances or just a handful of randos, but the stories and personalities are vibrant and unique and mostly inviting. They provide more entertainment than Tiger King, that is for damn sure. If they don’t, I promise you, you are in the wrong bar. These days my little bar consists of a social media feed and the goofy gaze of my dog.

As we continue to isolate I appreciate my hound more and more each day, not because he provides a service but like those chaps at the bar he simply adds to the tapestry during my tippling time. My dog holds no grudges, has no shame in asking, possibly begging for another bowl of free chips, he hangs on every word, and sometimes his farts surprise him. Frankly he is just like my bar crew.

So while we muster through the remaining weeks of isolation, look at your dog with a different perspective, pull up a seat next to that hound and thank him for being there. We could all use a bit more companionship these days, furry or otherwise.
