It’s a common misconception that Bourbon can only be made in Kentucky. As America’s native spirit, it can made anywhere in the country and can still be pretty damn good! The truth is that while most of the best bourbons do come from Kentucky, a few non-Kentucky distilleries have been making some very good stuff for years now. Some of these brands have even won awards at major competitions, proving their worth as excellent spirits. Here are some of the communities favorite non-Kentucky bourbons to sample in one pack.

High West Bourbon (Formerly American Prairie)

High West Bourbon is a blend of two bourbons, one from Indiana and one from an undisclosed location. This blend of straight bourbons was orginially dubbed American Prairie Bourbon to help raise awareness of the American Prairie Reserve, a group working to create the largest wildlife reserve in the lower 48 states. A unique blend that offers great flavor and outstanding value.

Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch Bourbon

If you’ve tried a bourbon before, you know that the flavor can be extremely varied. It’s not just the type of grain used, but also where it’s made and how long it’s aged. For example, many small batch bourbons are made with a mash bill (the mixture of grains used) that includes ingredients like wheat or rye to give them more character but a determining factor can be where those grains come from geographically. Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch Bourbon is an example of this. The whiskey is made from a mash of corn and barley with a high-rye content for extra flavor complexity. It then ages in new charred oak barrels to give it its smooth taste.

Woodinville Whiskey Company Straight Bourbon

A great bourbon that isn’t from Kentucky? You bet. We’re talking about Woodinville Whiskey Company Straight Bourbon, a small-batch whiskey made in Washington State. The folks over at Woodinville Whiskey Company have been making this fine spirit since 1998—and it has never disappointed fans who appreciate bold flavors and sweet aromas.
